Organic pickles

Machandel’s pickles, or pickled vegetables, include various products. Pickles, pickled onions and piccalilli for example. All organic of course. And that is quite unique. Most ingredients come from Germany and Poland, from dozens of farmers, except for the organic pickled onions. Since 2012, those have been grown in the Netherlands, in the polder.

Pickled onions from the Dutch polder

It is a unique occurrence for the pickled onions to be grown for our own organic pickles in the Netherlands. For a long time, the Dutch climate was too wet and therefore unfit. Furthermore, growing pickled onions involves a lot of risks, as the soil can no longer be used after the harvest. Pickled onions are prone to rotting, which ruins the land. That is why for the pickled onions, we are always looking for land that is assigned another use after the harvest. This allows us to handle our land in a sustainable manner.

Great flavour thanks to our own recipe

For our pickles, we use only organic vegetables. They have had the time to develop a delicious flavour. After we receive the vegetables, we give them flavour with our own recipe. It includes vinegar, agave syrup, salt and various herbs. These herbs are e.g. mustard seed and dill. Then, we add a diced onion and bell pepper, and our pickles are done.
